So I just set my friend up on the blog, so you may be getting some totally random ass shit here soon from him. He has a decent taste in music, so check his tracks, but it's not like he can step to this.  New De La, shit is a problem - they just released an itunes only release with nike "are you in?" be sure to check that out.  Be on the look out for a post from yikr's newest dude, Jew Jew Bee.

Dilla Dog

A Dilla beat I haven't heard!  And some fresh verses from Black Thought to go along with it. Dope!  Sorry I've been slacking - finals are a bitch.  Hopefully this makes up for it.

DMV

Some really smooth DMV shit from Diamond District, which is XO, Oddisee, and some other dude.  Watching the draft, this shit is wild.  Hoping a Hokie gets chosen soon... Finals week coming up so forgive me if my posts are lacking.

friday

How about some new Mr. Lif to kick off the weekend? His new album, What About Us, is on the way or out already, I'm not sure which. Here's the title track. I can't wait to hear the rest of the album if this is a sign of things to come. Have a good weekend.

speech

gave a speech on my old house tonight.  here's a song that's all about my mind set right now, well at least it's sounding like it to me.  excuse my delayed post, i've been swamped.  it's hella late but had to let this one go to ya'll before i hit the sheets.  Cas I really don't know, but I've liked Brother Ali for a minute.  That piano at the end is so sick too, that type of shit is so rare in hip-hop nowadays i feel.  be easy.

Now I'm on the cusp (c) Blu

1) Some bars from Blu, who is quickly forcing himself into my top 10 current MCs, on a Dela produced joint, Mars.  I've been kicking this for a while now, definitely good to relax to.  2) Talib Kweli has to be one of the most consistent dudes out.  This track proves it - which basically details my morning routine on the way to class, putting on my favorite hip-hop song.  He can make something sick even when he makes it for a video game soundtrack (this was done for some Rockstar Game release by Statik Selektah, somehow related to Grand Theft Auto I think). The beat doesn't hurt, courtesy of Statik Selektah.

flooded with new music

I got so many new songs my iTunes is going nuts.  Here's three tracks I haven't listened to that much, but sound tight from first listen. 1) Some new Black Milk produced Elzhi, of Slum Village fame.  Detroit dopeness as usual. 2) Another Donnis track with a really sick beat.  This guy is really impressing me, which surprises me 'cause I'm not usually into that his sort of style. 3) Some new Skyzoo and Wale over some Illmind production.  These two sound good together- the Brooklyn and DMV connection.

happy holidays

It's 4/20, so you know I gotta give ya'll something about herbal meditation.  Cunninlynguists will certainly get the job done with this new(ish) track.  Pretty hilarious and the beat is so nasty - listen for when Kno switches it up completely late in the song (around 2:38, I think) - that guitar sample is so dirty! And while this isn't about ganja, I'll also include this Rhymefest cut, well, because it's a sick track and I'm feeling generous today.  Hope ya'll are celebrating as much as I am - enjoy the tracks.

JD Era

Two posts today to catch up.  enjoy this JD Era, who is from Toronto and i'm digging what he's been putting out of late.  This track features production and a hook from another Canadian, Saukrates, who is affiliated with the Black Jays/Karidnal Offishall.  Really digging the beat and the hook is pretty tight.  Era rides it nicely.

asher roth

i really can't decide what i think of dude, some of his lyrics are nice, some are corny.  at least he doesn't want to be eminem and talks about smoking weed. this track is honestly pretty hot, but i do like gnarls barkley and cee-lo so... this is right up that alley. wouldn't surprise me if it got a decent amount of airplay, the beat is catchy as hell.  his album, asleep in the bread isle, drops tomorrow (4/20).

VT one love

Wanted to say R.I.P. to the 32 who lost their lives two years ago.  This one goes out to ya'll, especially AC, who always told me how hard the AP Gov test was during Psychology class.

playin' soccer, stupid (c) Cam'ron

Yo real talk intramural soccer is the shit.  I'm happy with my performances all things considered.  We gave it a good run Double Team.  nah, i won't hit you with a killa cam track. How about this producer collabo that was sick - The Alchemist and DJ Khalil team up for this 2 minute Fabolous lyrically laced gem.  2 minutes is not enough!  It's so sick though trust me, just wind it back.

the thyrday

This song is tight, and pretty old I think... I've been bumpin' it for a minute at least.  But I really don't think people know about it.  It's produced by Justus League's Khrysis, so you know it's smooth. Anyway, The Thyrday, I haven't dont any homework on them other than this song.

rainy, tired

it's one of those days.  tuesdays always suck.  good thing there's:

from hiatus to reform

Fuck it, hiatuses just aren't for me.  But... I am going to try and reform my ways and cut back in many respects.  On to the hip-hop - since I didn't post anything on Sunday (sorry LK) we'll do a double post. How about some new Black Milk, not from any new album unfortunately, but something to hold us over. He let loose these two tracks while on his European tour with Elzhi.  Dopeness ensues, as if you'd expect anything less from one of the games best producer/MC combos.  They're short, but sweet.

i am weak.

so saturday killed the hiatus... but, i'm going back on it this week 'cause i got mad work to do.  a one day slip up will not deter me haha.  this song had a lot to do with it.

day 3, weekend, drake

The weekend has begun, and while day 3 has been successful so far, who knows what could happen over the weekend.  Time for me to really test my strength haha.  On to the music: Toronto's own Drake recently dropped his mixtape So Far Gone, which was honestly a let down for me in a couple of ways. I'm not a fan of singing-heavy hip-hop nor auto-tune, both of which have a pretty strong presence on this mixtape. However, Drake does have some tracks on there that have him flexing his lyrical ability. Here's one I like, "Congratulations", and yes, it has some auto-tune, but it's tolerable and actually pretty hot (which is high praise considering my loathing of auto-tune).  The oddest part is it was a bonus track and samples Coldplay's single Viva La Vida - which is pretty sick in my opinion.  Check it out and cop the mixtape (for free) to hear more.

drunken post

it's the end of thirsty thursday and thus the beginning of the weekend, so imma kick it off with a "party song" if you will.  short post cause i'm drunk, i'll get to the point. some new redman and method man using a UGK (more specifically Pimp C) sample and featuring Bun B.  I get tore up on dem city lights too Pimp, RIP.

day 2, feeling good

I'm feeling really good right now. It's really nice outside, just played some good tennis, and now I'm relaxing (but still staying strong on the hiatus tip).  No night class tonight + no morning class tomorrow = fun night for yours truly.  In honor of my good mood, I wanted to share this track from Fresno, CA's very own Fashawn.  This dude has really been on his grind lately, with co-signs from The Alchemist and Evidence.  I expect big things from him, his lyrics are nice and he picks good beats. Check this track "Remember the Times", definitely good for reminiscing to the good ole days.

Thanks to 2dopeboyz for the link - zshare was going nuts on me today.

first post ever, hiatus, new TM

I don't really know why I decided to start a blog, maybe it had something to do with this article I read for my geography of the Middle East class that was about how the Muslim Brotherhood is increasingly using blogs to voice their political views, ideas, etc.  This isn't going to be anything formal or anything like that and will mostly consist of me posting hip-hop songs I'm digging - mostly through zshare.  Some may be new shit - "exclusives", if you will - others may just be whatever I'm feeling at the time.

It's day one of the hiatus and I'm already wondering how long I'll make it.  Part of me is thinking that I'd be lucky to make it to the weekend, but that'd be a major cop out. Anyways, how am I coping? Hip-hop of course.  This track is pretty new from one of the best groups I've heard in a while - Tanya Morgan.  "So Damn Down" is pretty mellow and smooth - definitely helping me relax right now. Check it out.
